Why Bush Left Texas

Kerry came home, as did many who served honorably, knowing that the war in vietnam was a farce. A farce that was getting his fellow servicepeople killed for no reason except that it suited some people's political and economic agendas. (Wow sounds familiar somehow.)

Rather than taking the easy path he decided to put himself in the forefront of a movement to fight the people who were responsible for the useless ongoing deaths of american soldiers.

He came home and fought for his fellow servicemen. It took incredible courage to do so considering the flak he took for it.

Believing, as he did, that the war was wrong and americans were dieing for the benefit of politicians who got to sit safe at home what would you suggest would have been a more honorable path for him to take?

Stay quiet when he knew it was wrong?

well part of my issue with Kerry's actions after his return from VietNam is that he and his followers targeted President Nixon as the "villain" and that VietNam was Nixon's fault. We were in Nam starting with Eisenhower, DeGaulle urged JFK to pull out. JFK intended to pull out after the 1964 election,(to do so sooner he would have been seen as "soft" on communism and possibly lose the 1964 election) but fate intervened in November 1963. LBJ, another Democrat, pushed the US ever deeper into the conflict. Nixon inherited it. I have seen photos of Kerry on the Kennedy yacht as a guest. He is closely affiliated with Ted Kennedy now. I would consider his actions a lot less suspect if he hadn't politicized his protest against Nixon's actions as POTUS while overlooking LBJ's and JFK's. Nixon didn't get us into VietNam.

Doesn't matter where it was. His time onboard counted as hazardous duty and would have prevented him from being rotated to vietnam.

He didn't have to volunteer for combat.

But he did.

He could have rotated stateside, or elsewhere, but he stepped up and asked to be sent in. On a fucking swift boat at that! A floating bull?s-eye.

He put his ass on the line for what he believed and was awarded five medals for his service.

His time there changed how he felt about vietnam and he stepped up again to try and save his fellow soldiers lives by protesting the war.

He followed his conscience and acted in the best interest of his country and his fellow service-people as he saw it.

That is honor.

You may disagree with what he believed, though I'm hard pressed to believe that you thought the vietnam war was a just war, but you cannot honestly question his integrity on this matter.

he still goes back to visit, it isnt like he just left texas for good.

I'm sure that Texas didnt just treat him like crap so he would leave.

Reminds me of the people who condemn President Bush asa warmonger but never objected to Clinton using military force in several instances.

As to VietNam being nothing but a war for an agenda similar to the war in Iraq that "agenda" cut across several administrations beginning with Eisenhower, JFK, LBJ, Nixon and finally Ford. And it's kind of ironic, a Republican got us into it another Republican got us out with 2 Democrats smack dab in the middle of it. The situation in Iraq does parallel VietNam in the respect that it started under a Republican administration (Bush Sr) and was a running problem during both Clinton administrations and it took Bush Jr. to take definitive action (whether you agree with his actions or not isn't the point I'm trying to debate). But the agenda for VietNam was to stop the spread of Communism in the far east, the surface agenda for Iraq is to prevent the spread of WMDs and terrorism. Oil definitely is a major factor, and I do not have a problem with that.
